Cardi B spent this  weekend in the Carolinas making four club stops and performing her hit song Bodak Yellow. Starting in Conway South Carolina, to Raleigh, Greensboro and finally Charlotte, North Carolina, Cardi filled the clubs to capacity each and every night. Pretty Hustlaz caught up with Cardi in Raleigh and I must say with Cardi what you see is definitely what you get. She is the fun, humble, silly girl that you see on TV who is passionate about her music.

Cardi and I talked after her performance at Club Diva’s in Raleigh. The crowd greeted the young artist as she entered the stage by paying homage and singing Bodak Yellow. Everyone in the crowd song word for word as Cardi danced along. For a girl who was once in the strip club as a dancer it had to be an amazing feeling. Diva’s is a strip club, and ironically Cardi rocked the stage, but this time as currently one of the hottest female rappers.

What is life like for Cardi right now?

“Life is extremely busy, the more fame I get the more busy I get. You see little by little the process. Everything I have worked so hard for I see.  It didn’t come right away, but it’s happening. It’s a good feeling. Its like when you cook and its like ooh shit (giggles) its like I’m cooking”

You can’t go anywhere without hearing Bodak Yellow. The babies, the teens, grandparents, in the mall, in the gym… it’s everywhere and everyone knows the lyrics. This is the moment she has been putting in the work for.

Being from New York, how big was the New York musical influence

” It has always been big, its like everything the rappers rapped about the whole swag, I saw it. Like Hip Hop is what I was living, I lived it. As I got older everything I rapped about became who I am. It was like a trend all the artist was talking about strippers and dancers an I became one. Everything about money and fame I became. I listened to Trina, Missy Elliot, Lil Kim and all the slutty things they talked about and men tricking on them and became that.”

Now Cardi says she knew she would have a banger that would blow up, she just didn’t know which one. Cardi has a few hits so don’t sleep on her. Bodak Yellow is doing numbers, but Lick featuring Offset also stays on my playlist.

Two out of the four nights, Pretty Hustlaz own Jina Law kept Cardi beautiful by assisting her as her hairstylist.

I personally have so much respect for Cardi’s grind and hustle and I’ve said it before, I’m so excited about her future.
