The City of Miami Gardens was immersed in the vibrant spirit of the Bahamas on Saturday, December 2, 2023, as the community celebrated the “Junkanoo with Santa” event. From 10 AM to 1 PM, Bunche Park became a hub of festive joy and cultural pride.

Hosted by Councilwoman Shannan ‘Lady’ Ighodaro and in partnership with EDCO GOES, the free event was a holiday highlight for families across the city. At 15600 W. Bunche Park Dr., Miami Gardens, FL 33054, attendees were treated to an array of activities and performances.

Highlights of the Day:

Exhilarating Junkanoo Performances: The park was alive with the sounds and sights of Junkanoo performers. Their energetic music and colorful costumes were a sight to behold, bringing a slice of Bahamian culture to Miami Gardens.

Santa’s Special Visit:Children’s faces lit up as Santa Claus made his grand entrance, listening to their holiday wishes and spreading Christmas cheer.

Joy of Giving: In the true holiday spirit, toys were given to the delighted children, ensuring every child left with a present (with the stipulation that they had to be present to receive it).

Community Connection: It was a day of not just celebration, but also of community bonding. Attendees interacted with local leaders and learned about various community organizations.

Local Support: The event showcased the strength of community partnerships, with support from the Jones Family Foundation, Inc., among others.

The event was more than a mere gathering; it was a celebration of community, culture, and holiday joy. It served as a reminder of the caring spirit of Councilwoman ‘Lady’ Ighodaro, whose commitment to her community is reflected in her moniker, “Lady Cares.”

Attendees left with hearts full of joy and a new appreciation for the unique blend of Junkanoo culture and holiday tradition. The “Junkanoo with Santa” event will be remembered as a day when the warmth of the community truly shone through.
