“To see it again, relive it and see it in film where they nailed it, yeah, it was a surreal moment.” -Aziyah King on seeing Zola on the big Screen
Back in 2015, Aziyah King known as @_zolarmoon on twitter, took her followers on a wild ride. She constructed a thread about meeting a stranger while working at Hooters, and heading down to Florida with hopes of making big bucks landing dancing gigs. Of course, this turns into chaos as “Zola” works hard to be the voice of reason for her new found friend Stefani. The 140 tweet thread went viral in no time. We all were left shocked, amazed, and wanting for more after King effortlessly brought us into the misunderstood world of sex work, thrill and survival. Fast forward to 2020, that thread is now a movie entitled Zola.
Social media is a place where we all gather to laugh, crack jokes and bond. However, it’s no doubt that it is also a creative’s playground. Who knew that what once a thread on twitter , would not only make its debut at the Sundance Film Festival, but have BOMB REVIEWS! Zola will be potrayed played by Taylour Paige and Stefani is played by Riley Keough, Although the film has no release date just with all the buzz coupled with great reviews and 88% on rotten tomatoes, Im sure a date for the big screen is just around the corner.
