Content creators on OnlyFans, a website that lets users see what they want through paid subscription, are a different breed of entrepreneurs. What makes these girls talented are their marketing skills and ability to create content they know their fans want to see.
“You have to have your own mind to make money on OnlyFans because everybody has their own opinions on it,” says 23-year-old content creator who wished to remain anonymous. “People think you’re a prostitute. Really, they are overthinking it.” Unlike other jobs she’s had, she doesn’t feel OnlyFans is degrading because she is her own boss. There is a freedom in setting your own hours and controlling what you are willing to do.
OnlyFans isn’t just used for porn. Indie rapper, 3dnatee, is one of the top accounts despite having no nudity. Her content was based on business, music industry and gardening.
@CinnamonRoc is already in the top 40% on content creators and she’s only been doing it for a month. It’s a popular platform because the content creators are more tangible. Creators are able to charge their viewers to see their photos and videos, take requests and tips.
“Once I seen other people were not viewing it so negatively, I realized its like a paid Instagram. It gave me more of an incentive to join,” said CinnamonRoc.
If you log onto Twitter, there is the understand backlash from the stigma of OnlyFans but it is creeping into the mainstream. What their success mean is a culture shift on how we slut shame women. Especially because it is getting more mainstream.
“I’ve always wanted to nude model but get paid right away,” says Yessica @Goddessyesica, another content creator. She is also an aspiring recording artist that has a sizeable audience on all platforms. It was clear that Onlyfans was her favorite platform to connect to her fans because of the lack of the restriction and the immediate income. “It’s different from Instagram because you can monetize fast. It’s a better way to distribute your content and feel appreciated.”
Similarly, Cardi B offered her Behind-The-Scenes footage on the site. For $4.99, fans can access rehearsals and lead-up to the shoot itself. “I wanna know what my fans would like to see there,” the WAP singer says. “And to be clear, “no I’m not going to be showing my titties, or my pussy, or my ass. Just straight up real-life content shit. You guys be mad nosey when it comes to my life.”
All of these women, whether big superstars or just starting out, are complex with different backgrounds and skills. It’s impressive in a world where women’s sexuality and ability is constantly being policed. But it is clear, they love what they do and they are all entrepreneurs.
