The right to vote is something women fought for over time. In recent years, the proportion of eligible female adults has exceeded that of men. In the 2016 election, Hilary Clinton won most of the female votes overall, (95% of Black women voted for Hilary) however 52% of White women voted for Trump. This was a major factor in him winning the election.  Needless to say, the female vote is extremely important in any election. In a lot of cases the votes of women can be the deciding factor in who wins. On July 31st, we had the pleasure of attending a very special meet and greet with Cedric Mcminn, Democrat for State Representative District 109 And Ms. Corporate America 2018 Elizabeth Garcia. The purpose was to discuss “The Power of the Woman Vote.” The event was held at Epic Nail Lounge powered by Elizabeth’s Secret Beauty Bar. It is located at 801 NW 3rd Ave Miami, FL 33136. The event also served as drop off for school supplies which will be donated to local children.

The evening started with Ms. Corporate America, Elizabeth Garcia giving a heartfelt thank you to all the business owners, entrepreneurs, mothers and hard working women in the room for coming out.  Elizabeth Garcia holds a Masters in Exceptional Student Education with Gifted Endorsement. As a business consultant Liz specializes in effectively marketing small and large businesses in various spaces and has worked to gain access to some of the most well known industry professions. So we were definitely in good company. She went on introduce Cedric Mcminn whom she met during her time as an educator. She stressed the importance of giving back as well as her support of the ladies who are employed by Epic Nail Lounge.

Without women, who are the backbone of our families we wouldn’t be here.”  Stated Cedric Mcminn. Cedric is running for State Representative for District 109. (If you are unsure of what district you are in vist www.411.org and enter your address) Cedric is the child of educators so needless to say if elected, education is at the top of his list of priorities. Fighting for a strong public education system that prepares our students and compensates our teachers is a key point in his campaign among other important issues. He is endorsed by Keon Hardemon and Dr. Steve Gallon III just to name a few. This position is very important and the decisions of the person elected will directly affect those in the community. We cannot stress enough how vital it is that you cast your vote on August 28th 2018. The futures of our children depend on it. Elizabeth Espinosa was also in attendance she is running for Circuit Court Judge in Miami and will be on ballots across districts. No event is complete without refreshments which were provided to us by Jackson’s Soul Food, a staple in the Overtown community.
