” Its time to take the starving out of starving artist” -Desiree Parkman
Art Basel is a for profit, privately owned and managed international art fair staged annually in Basal Switzerland; Miami Beach, Florida and Hong Kong selling the arts of established and emerging artists alike. The anticipated event made its way to Miami December 2-7th 2019. Like many things in Miami, the glitz, glam and the party has started to overshadow the core meaning of Art Basel. Also, artists of color are being overlooked and left out of the festivities, for this reason tastemakers have made sure create their own spaces for these talented artists to shine
The Pretty Hustle team is dedicated to bringing you coverage from the hottest events in the city. However, it is also important to us to shed light on amazing individuals that may not get the attention they deserve otherwise. Parkman Creative is based in Miami, Florida. Its purpose is to provide access to emerging artists and creative entrepreneurs. On December 3rd we had the honor of meeting the brains behind Parkman Creative, Desiree Parkman as we engaged in a 80’s style event that showcased artists, musical and dance performances.
The event took place at Studio J, A hidden gem located at 300 NW 54th Street. The space was equipped with a rooftop patio, lounge area and full bar. Needless to say we were impressed before the show even began. We started the night mixing and mingling while being amazed by the beautiful art that adorned the walls. Artists included @ogliarts, @artbyblu, @camillejimmy @nateman_arts, and @myway art studio. The Live performances included @officalmatteo, Nelz_get_live and a special vogue performance as well. We thought it was so special to cover an event with so many talented individuals of color.
