2008 was one of the biggest turn outs for voting of all time. It seems since then, voter turnout has decreased tremendously.  It may be apathy or the American people may have just lost faith in the political process. Whatever the case maybe, we have to do something to change the attitude towards voting. From Saturday, September 22 to Saturday, September 29, When We All Vote celebrated a week of action. Communities across the country, with the help of volunteers hosted voter registration events in cities big and small. Events included grassroots and voter’s registration rallies across the country. On Saturday, September 28, 2018, “When We All Vote” made its way to Miami, FL for a voter’s registration rally we won’t soon forget. The rally was held at University of Miami Watsco Center. Students and people from the community alike all filled the center excitedly just after 4 pm. The event included children of immigrants, business owners and first time voters who all shared their voting experiences with us. The event also included everybody’s favorite cousin Angela Rye, Keegan of Kee & Peele, Kelly Rowland, Erica Campbell and the best surprise of all, Forever First Lady Michelle Obama. She explained to us why voting is important to her and addressed that fact that many people thought her previous work was due to her husband being on the ballot. Well he is no longer on the ballot or in office and she is still out doing her part. Michelle challenged us to help reassure everyone around us is not only registered to vote but WILL vote in the upcoming midterm election. October 9, 2018 is the last day to register to vote so make sure you’re registered because the upcoming election is a very important one. Don’t Pass up the chance to do your part.
