If you are part of any type of social media or empowerment group it’s a very good chance you have heard of the word affirmation. The power of social media has influenced many individuals curiosity about affirmations. What are they? What do they do? How do I use them?

Let’s start out with what the word affirmation means. What is affirmation?
af•firm•a•tion -the act or process of affirming something or being affirmed.
-emotional support or encouragement. If you are a fan of good vibes only then affirmations should definitely be added to your everyday life. Affirmations are positive statements that you speak over your life on a daily basis. For example, I AM BEAUTIFUL is an affirmation that one would speak if they were battling with self-esteem, or that one would speak as a reminder that they were made with no mistakes. Affirmations are specifically catered to the needs, desires, and wants of the individual speaking them.

Now that we have a clear understanding of what affirmations are let’s talk about what affirmations do.
Affirmations can serve as inspiration, reminders, or staying focused on daily goals set before us. Speaking over your life on a daily basis. It’s a form of reprogramming the subconscious mind to keep focus on positive things. Have you ever heard of the statement POSITIVE MIND, POSITIVE LIFE? That statement goes hand in hand with affirmations. It creates the reality in which we want to live that may not be our current reality, but as you speak affirmations you ultimately are attracting what you are speaking. The purpose behind affirmations is to rewrite your subconscious mind.

At this point we know what affirmations are, we know what they do, but now let’s talk about how we successfully use them. In order to be effective, affirmations must be used EVERYDAY if not a couple of times a day. A key piece of wisdom when speaking affirmations is using them IN FIRST PERSON. Using first person turns nonspecific affirmations into specific affirmations called identity statements. Examples of identity statements are “I AM” or “I”, these help motivate and promote self-change and self-awareness. So, one of my personal affirmations is I AM an irresistible magnet for all things that belong to me by divine right. You want to write that one down, it’s a very powerful affirmation. Another key component in using affirmations successfully is you have to BELIEVE what you are saying even if you are making affirmations that are not yet happening in your life. This step is where people fail and claim affirmations do not work. You have to believe what you are saying as you are saying it. YOU ARE SPEAKING OVER YOUR LIFE. This is where you begin to speak things into existence. If your words and your feelings do not match, your affirmations WILL NOT WORK.

If you are new to using affirmations here are a few you can get started with right away while you develop your own:
I am healthy, whole, and complete
I am courageous.
I am a powerhouse; I am indestructible.
I am blessed with an incredible family and wonderful friends.
I am enough.
I am debt free.
I am living for a living with no limitations.
