Awards shows are a staple in American culture; Just like the Super bowl, Independence Day, or the Christmas holiday. It’s a time for families and friends to gather, enjoy each other’s company and ramble endlessly about who they feel deserves what. The Grammy’s are less than a month away and the odds are already looking stacked from the nomination list on Grammy.com being released last month.
Kendrick Lamar is leading with 11 nominations! He is nominated for Best Song OTY, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Rap/SungCollaboration, Best Album OTY, Best Rap Album, and MORE. Various tracks from “To Pimp A Butterfly” bestowed these to him, as well as his feature with Taylor Swift “Bad Blood”. Going up against the likes of legends like Common, Drake, and Nicki Minaj, Kendrick Lamar definitely has his hands full. Though because of his countless nominations, I’m sure he won’t go home empty handed at all.
The second most recognized artist in this year’s Grammy’s is The Weekend. He has nominations in various categories including Best Record OTY, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best R&B Song, plus 4 more. His album, “The Beauty Behind The Madness” is nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album against “You Should Be Here” (Khelani), “WildHeart” (Miguel), “Ego Death” (The Internet), and “Blood” (Lianna La Havas). The line up of nominees is pretty diverse but I am looking for The Weekend to bring this one home of all his chances to win. Other artists nominated for Grammy’s include Nicki Minaj (Best Rap Album), ASAP Rocky (Best Music Video), Wiz Khalifa/Charlie Puth (See You Again), and of course more.
The race is on, but the winner won’t be revealed until February 15, 2016. LL Cool J is hosting this year’s 58th Annual Grammy Award show live from the Staples Center starting at 8:30PM EST. Expect to see performances by Rihanna, John Legend, and more of your favorite artists!
