Nicki Minaj’s cover of the July issue of Elle Magazine was released this week. While some were impressed with the feature, it also had its share of criticism as well. With Nicki’s new album entitled “Queen” just a few weeks away, the rap star returns from her 4 year hiatus in a big way. The cover shoot was shot by fashion icon Karl Lagerfield . He also appears in some of the shots with Nicki. Her hair was styled by the incomparable Kim Kimble. In one of the pictures Kim is shown dressed in her work clothes with two braids styling Nicki’s hair in between shoots. She still looks flawless in spite of. In the interview,  Nicki discussed a number of hot topics including what it was like recording her new album, the power of  being single for the 1st time since she was 15 years old and abstaining from sex.

“Becoming single was one of the things that made me feel strong and powerful. The fact that I am a young woman who doesn’t need a man for money.”

In today’s generation this is a very important message on self worth that every young woman should hear and comprehend.

Nicki goes on to state:

“Maybe I was naïve, but I didn’t realize how many girls were modern-day prostitutes,” she begins. “Whether you’re a stripper, or whether you’re an Instagram girl—these girls are so beautiful and they have so much to offer. But I started finding out that you give them a couple thousand dollars, and you can have sex with them. I was like, Yikes. It’s just sad that they don’t know their worth. It makes me sad as a woman. And it makes me sad that maybe I’ve contributed to that in some way.”

This is where many fans screamed hypocrisy. Although Nicki takes responsibility for contributing to this mindset, the very same day, she released a single with Lil Wayne entitled “Rich Sex”.  In the chorus, Minaj raps the exact opposite of  her message in the Elle magazine interview. She encourages the idea of having sex for money. Many felt the message needed to be heard but the messenger should’ve been different. You can find the interview here:

Rich sex can also be found anywhere you stream music. You be the judge is Nicki being a hypocrite? Or is she using her star power to spread a message that is usually overlooked for fear of slut shaming? Let us know your opinion.
